After qualifying  in 1999 she went to ply her trade in the UK where she worked in general medical institutions including St Thomas and Charing Cross Hospitals. She honed down in her expertise and completed her part 1 examination towards her membership of Royal College of Physicians (MRCP). She realised that Ophthalmology  was her passion and pounced on the first opportunity to realize her ambition when she was offered a training job in the Department.

She returned to  South Africa to specialise in Ophthalmology under the esteemed mentorship of Professor Peters and Dr Linda Visser at UKZN. She served as a consultant in academia for the Department  responsible for training medical students, theatre nurses and registrars , qualified in 2007. She gained vast surgical experience  in the vitreo-retinal field as a result .
