DO NOT TRIVIALIZE YOUR EYE OPERATION.

The fact that you are not wearing a moonboot does not mean your eye operation is less  important.

  • Do not exercise until doctor says its okay to do so.
  • Do not go for a swim , surfing or diving for at least four weeks. Keep your eye dry.
  • Don’t place unnecessary pressure on your eye by bending eg during  gardening.
  • You are still beautiful without an an eye liner or a mascara for at least a week after an eye operation.
  • EYEDROPS
  • Please use  your eye drops as directed there is a reason behind the frequency of dosing.
  • You’ve been given a few days to recuperate not to spring clean your house, visit family and friends. Use your eye drops and rest.
  • If your eye initially feels uncomfortable  and day three  you are  in agony, that is unusual you should get in contact with your attending ophthalmologist don’t wait for your next appointment!
  • We are careful not to give you a red eye during your operation but if your eye is red afterwards don’t panic,  it will clear in about two weeks and has no bearing on your vision or the objective of surgery. .You have had an operation on delicate eye tissues remember.
  • Its not advisable to pull things out of an operated eye ,for your comfort we use tissue glue instead of stitches sometimes and its stringy.
  • We also use bandage contact lenses for your comfort which acts as an elastoplast.
  • Do not rub your eyes!
  • AFTER A RETINAL DETACHMENT REPAIR
  • Sometimes you are given instructions to position your head in a particular way this is to help your eye heal inside , its only two weeks of your life.Your neck may feel stiff its still better than a re-operation.
  • If you are  told not to travel to higher altitudes that’s  if your eye has expansive gas inserted. Please don’t . This may cause serious eye damage and you can permanently loose your vision. A quick business meeting is not an excuse.

Failure to comply with post op orders might lead to a fresh  wound coming apart  in some cases, necessitating an emergency in office repair or going back to theater for a surgical repair.
