Uvetis

Symptoms include redness, pain, light sensitivity, blurred vision and dark floating spots in the field of vision (floaters).

Uveitis can be caused by common viruses and be self limiting. It is a form of vasculitis and can often warrant investigating with blood work up and chest x-rays amongst other tests.

Eyedrops will be prescribed to dampen down inflammation and sometimes oral medication depending on the severity and the cause. Sometimes injections into the eye are used(intravitreal). And in other cases combinations of the above are employed. This condition is sight-threathning if left untreated. It can lead to cataracts, glaucoma and loss of central vision (cystoid macula oedema).

Anterior uveitis can be experienced after blunt  trauma to the eye usually day 5 to 6.

There is a strong association with auto immune conditions such as Rheumatoid  athitis,Systemic Lups Erythematosis(SLE),Sarcoidoid.

Infective causes like Tuberculosis ,Syphyllis and HIV can also present with uveitis.
